- Fluoroscopy is a form of diagnostic radiology that is done under a special unit or piece of equipment that enables the radiologis to visualize the organ or area of concern via x-ray with the aid of a contrast agent. This contrast agent allows the image to be viewed clearly on a television monitor or screen. Contrast agents (or "contrast media" as they are also known) may be introduced into the body through injection, swallowing or an enema.
- Each test consists of a series of images taken by a radiologist, followed by a series taken by the technician. The film is checked for technical accuracy and then interpreted by the radiologist who reports to the referring physician.
- Some exams require anterior preparation.
