Mammography
A mammogram is a specialized examination for the early detection of breast
cancer and other benign breast disorders. This examination is done with a
special unit manufactured for this purpose.
To obtain an adequate image of the mammary gland, the breast has to be
compressed and this, unfortunately, may sometimes cause some discomfort
to some patients.
- A mammogram is an x-ray image of the breast, used to identify tumors and other abnormalities.
- Mammography is widely regarded to be the most effective method of breast cancer detection, and has been shown to improve the chances of survival through early detection of malignancies.
- Mammography is an x-ray procedure and it therefore involves some exposure to radiation.
- However, the amount of radiation is extremely low.
- Be sure to tell your doctor if you suspect you might be pregnant.
